 RoSPA Event Sponsors

Awards and Occupational Safety Events

One of the main areas of RoSPA’s work is in occupational health and safety and we are grateful to a number of sponsors in this field. Highly prized and acknowledged worldwide, the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards can be counted as one of the Society’s foremost success stories.

Since 2006, the RoSPA Awards Golden Jubilee, the scheme sponsor has been the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) - the leading qualification awarding body for professionals working in the health and safety field.

Occupational Road Risk Seminars and Safety Awareness Exchange events

Once again RoSPA has led the field by creating innovative events: Management of Occupational Road Risk is a key issue for RoSPA, and Toyota has sponsored a series of national and regional seminars on the topic. The brand association is excellent, and Toyota has continued the relationship by sponsoring a series of new events, which RoSPA launched in December 2005, called Safety Awareness Exchanges. Some of the previous Safety Awareness Exchange sponsors include:

Toyota S’cool To Be Safe - Theatre in Education

S'cool to be Safe

S'cool to be Safe is a national Theatre-in-Education (TIE) project focusing on areas of everyday life where children may be in danger, with an overall aim to reduce the number of accidents that kill and injure over two million children each year. It was launched in 1998, by Toyota, in collaboration with RoSPA and Catalyst Theatre in Health Education Company - who devise and perform the programmes.

Domestos - Sponsorship for Safety Education

Domestos logo

For more than a decade Domestos partnered the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in projects designed to help promote better safety practices in the home. Very young children are not ready either physically or mentally to recognise a potential risk and keep themselves out of danger, so RoSPA compiled new research, sponsored by Domestos, into how children develop an understanding of safety and how parents can best use language and play to help their children learn about hazards and risk.

They have also sponsored a risk assessment computer package for children called Find It, Fix It; Safe Start; and Small Beginnings. Children’s resources featuring activities and stories to teach safety awareness have also been sponsored by Domestos. Both were aimed at pre-school and infant children.

The RoSPA National Safe Driving Awards Scheme is a programme aimed at companies with staff who drive as part of their work. It is a low-cost, low-administration reward scheme for encouraging safe and responsible driving, which currently has more than 50,000 drivers enrolled as members.

RoSPA secured significant sponsorship from Halifax General Insurance Services Ltd to underwrite the costs of development and promotion of the Scheme. This partnership was formed through the motor insurance arm of Halifax where they have strengthened their positioning as a value-for-money, quality product by an association that reinforces their commitment to improved driver standards and safer roads.

The Morphy Richards Kitchen Safety Pack

S'cool to be Safe

The kitchen is one of the main danger areas in the home. An estimated 224,000 people go to hospital A&E departments each year after suffering from the consequences of an accident in the kitchen, and some people will die from their injuries. Nearly half of all deaths from kitchen accidents are because of chip pan fires. Morphy Richards worked with RoSPA in producing this pack for professionals working in the field of home safety in order to draw attention to these risks and to help them advise vulnerable groups about kitchen accident prevention.

Norwich Union Young Worker Website

Norwich Union logo

The safety of young workers is the focus of a website produced by RoSPA and sponsored by Norwich Union Risk Services. It is designed not only to help young people aged 14 to 25 years, but also work experience organisers, and businesses and organisations with fewer than 200 employees. The website is a powerful aid to anyone with responsibility for young people in the workplace and to young people themselves - particularly if they want to find out more, or have worries about health and safety. As well as providing basic guidance, information, quizzes and interactive safety exercises, it also signposts where to find further help and resources.

MD Foods Child Road Safety Campaign

RoSPA worked with MD Foods, one of the UK’s largest dairies, on a conspicuity campaign aimed at parents and children in primary schools. More than 300,000 flyers were distributed to parents through schools and milk deliveries in the MD Foods milk distribution area. The campaign included a "spot the dangers in the street" competition, with free reflective armbands, and a free road safety pack for schools which included a RoSPA road safety pictorial resource.

HSBC Firework Safety

HSBC logo

Each year hundreds of people are injured by fireworks. That was why RoSPA joined forces for two consecutive years with HSBC to publish a firework safety leaflet entitled Bonfires, Bangers and Barbecues. The leaflet was distributed free-of-charge to RoSPA members, sold through RoSPA’s catalogue of safety products, and promoted through HSBC and its school banking service.
