Construction Engineering Sector Award Winner

"Receiving a major award in the Construction Engineering Sector for the third year running is an honour that recognises the commitment of our staff in pursuing safety excellence.

Protecting the health and safety of our workforce, members of the public and others affected by our activities is an essential part of the risk management process that Studsvik UK has implemented.

To achieve this initiative, a behavioural safety programme was implemented in 2005; originally led by managers, this has now been devolved throughout with workers introducing safety initiatives to help reinforce our safety principle to send people home safe and sound to their families every day. Our willingness to work together in a partnership approach that includes the involvement of everyone remains our number one priority and has helped to overcome both technical and behavioural obstacles, and is key to our success.

Being selected to receive this prestigious award recognises the work that all staff have delivered to improve both their own and organisational safety performance in our drive for zero harm to people and the environment. Without their individual contributions this would not have been possible."

George Lyons, Head of Assurance, Studsvik UK Ltd

Transport, Storage and Distribution Sector Winner

"Northern Rail is extremely honoured to be selected as Sector winners for the third year running.

Effective health and safety management is core to our business and a fundamental expectation of our customers, and we believe the RoSPA Awards is an excellent independent benchmark against which to assess our approach.

Winning the award is a real credit to our staff and will be an inspiration to us to continue our journey towards health and safety excellence."

Gary Stewart, Safety and Assurance Director, Northern Rail Ltd

"Bath & North East Somerset Council - Waste Collections, were delighted to win the coveted RoSPA award for our sector, which was our first attempt. The award is the culmination of a great deal of commitment and hard work from managers at all levels of the organisation, Trade Unions and the collection staff. On a wider perspective we are pleased to be leading the way in change for the industry in trying to reduce the level of serious accidents and participating in various regional schemes with both the HSE and private/public service operators by sharing best practice.
