Awards Review 2012

Award ceremony

With nearly 2,000 entrants, 2012 was another record year for the RoSPA Awards, the leading occupational health and safety awards programme.

The awards and trophies were presented at prestigious ceremonies over three days in May at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel and at the Glasgow Hilton in September.

As usual, the Birmingham events ran alongside the Safety & Health Expo at the NEC, Europe's foremost annual exhibition event for the safety and health industry.

Daytime presentations were made by RoSPA Chairman, Eric Wiles, Michael Hampson, Vice Chair; Trustees Eric Clark, Mike Parker CBE, Professor Yvonne Doyle and John Clayton CBE.

Major award winners received their awards at the evening gala dinners from RoSPA Vice President, Lord Brougham & Vaux CBE (Tuesday in Birmingham), Lord Jordan CBE, RoSPA President (Wednesday and Thursday in Birmingham and Scotland), while around 3,500 guests attended the celebrations, including important guests from across the world of safety, from industry and from Government. The events were truly international affairs, with award winners and guests representing organisations not just from the UK but all around the world.

A good time was had by all and following an excellent meal, after-dinner entertainment was provided in Birmingham by star comedian, Jason Manford and in Glasgow by accomplished wit and raconteur Sandy Strang.

After a powerful and emotionally charged video appeal about blind cord safety and driveway safety, dinner guests generously donated invaluable funds to RoSPA's vital mission work in other areas of safety, via the charity prize draw.

Recent celebratory events for the leading RoSPA Awards programme have usually been fully booked - and with top class dining, first rate entertainment and live music all at a competitive price it's not hard to see why!
