Winners 2005 : Sir George Earle TrophyIn 1954, the late Sir George Earle, then president of the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd, delivered an address to the National Industrial Safety Conference on the importance of competition, achievement and reward; then supporting his words with action, he presented the silver Victorian inkstand now known as the Sir George Earle Trophy, for annual competition. It is awarded for the most outstanding performance in health and safety by a company or organisation. Winner in 2005: The Citation reads: GPIC’s approach exhibited outstanding top level leadership; a truly robust risk management regime built from synthesis of the best from worldwide health and safety standards; involvement of their whole workforce; strong focus on off-the-job safety and the inclusion of employees’ families and the wider community in initiatives to raise awareness of health, safety and environmental issues. The award of the trophy also recognises the substantial and positive influence which GPIC has had on the continuing development of health and safety legislation and culture within Bahrain and their commitment to embed such values in their society.
