Young Drivers
A key RoSPA campaign for this year is to save thousands of youngsters from horrific injuries and death on the roads. Our campaign is to reduce the accidents caused by young drivers, and here you can read more about the problem.

Last year our key campaign was to save vulnerable children and older people from the dreadful burns that scalding water can inflict.

Over 6,500 children go to hospital with a scald injury every year; the sad fact is that many of these injuries are easily preventable. RoSPA is campaigning for all new homes to be fitted with a simple yet effective device that will maintain the water temperature at a safe level - Thermostatic Mixing Valves. Take a look at further information about this important campaigning issue.

John Boldon, Cory Environmental’s Group Planning and Communications Director, presented at cheque for £500 to Errol Taylor, RoSPA’s Acting Chief Executive. Cory Environmental is one of the country’s leading recycling and waste management businesses, operating in more than 30 locations throughout the UK.

Errol Taylor said: “We are delighted with this valuable contribution to RoSPA’s work . The Society works closely with businesses and organisations and welcomes donations which help our efforts to reduce the pain and suffering caused by accidents

“A key focus for RoSPA in 2006 will be to encourage employers to help their employees to extend good occupational safety practices onto the road and into the home. Britain’s workplaces are among the safest in the world, but employees run 4-5 times the risk of suffering a fatal accident while driving for work compared with the risks they face while in the office or on the shop floor.

“The home is even more dangerous. People are 15-20 times more likely to suffer a fatal injury in the home than they are in the workplace.

“All accidents cause significant emotional trauma and have legal implications as well as financial penalties. Few employers realise the considerable costs they incur due to absenteeism caused outside the workplace.”
