More than 200 people are killed at work in the United Kingdom each year. This does not include work-related road deaths. In 2006, 30 million working days were lost in the UK to occupational ill health and injury, imposing an annual cost to society of £30 billion (more than 3% of GDP). Surveys show that about two million people suffer from an illness that they believe to be caused or made worse by work.

Developing leadership action: delivering on directors' health and safety responsibilities
This conference will focus on the critical developments over the last 12 months, which have increased directors’ liabilities and will help organisations to review and benchmark their strategies for meeting the new challenges.

Managing Workplace Transport Risks
A Matter of Life or Death
Workplace transport is the second largest cause of accidents in the workplace.
Each year approximately 70 people are killed and 2,000 seriously injured in accidents involving vehicles in and around workplaces. In addition there are around 5,000 injuries that cause people to be off work for more than three days.
This conference, which includes expert speakers from a wide spectrum, will offer delegates briefing on: current accident, injury and enforcement trends; key standards required by HSE; effective solutions to workplace transport safety issues; and signposting to sources of guidance and help. It will also offer an opportunity to network informally with other delegates and learn about how others are dealing with this critical aspect of workplace safety.

The Construction Health & Safety Conference 2008
2.2 million people work in Britain’s construction industry, making it the country’s biggest industry. It is also one of the most dangerous. In the last 25 years, over 2,800 people have died from injuries they received as a result of construction work. Many more have been injured or made ill.
