A member of staff has been diagnosed as diabetic and will need to take insulin. What workplace precautions need to be put in place?

If they have only started taking insulin, it will take time for this to settle down so the organisation needs to show a higher duty of care based on the type of work that is being done. Ensure that he/she is able to take insulin at work if required and that first aiders are also aware.

For information and support on all issues about employment and diabetes, here in the UK, contact the Diabetes UK Advocacy Service on 020 7424 1847/1840 or email advocacy@diabetes.org.uk.

There is also an advocacy self-help pack dealing with employment issues which you can request from the advocacy service or download from their website.
