About RoSPA in Northern Ireland
Our mission is:
"To save lives and reduce injuries."
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is a uniquely comprehensive safety organisation with a basic aim: helping to save lives and reduce the toll of injuries from accidents of all kinds. Our remit covers all accidents, in all locations (work, road, home, water and leisure, sport, at play, in school) and all age groups.
The Belfast office deals with enquiries about all types of accident. For people seeking local information on a very specific issue, we can signpost you to other Northern Ireland agencies.
Our main aims are:
- To support the development of the Northern Ireland Home Accident Prevention Strategy
- To support the development of local accident prevention strategies at health board and local council level
- To support improved data collection for accidents
- To make safety training more widely available in Northern Ireland
- To improve partnership working for injury prevention
- To disseminate good practice and latest research.
Our services include:
Information Service - Our website is geared to local information and updated on a regular basis. We can be contacted for further advice or information by telephone on 028 90501160 or by email: enquiryni@rospa.com. We also supply information for the schools Intranet service, NINE.
Home Safety Training - RoSPA City & Guilds-accredited training courses focus on accidents and their prevention in Northern Ireland. Courses include: Child Safety in the Home; Older People - Safety in the Home; Implementing Home Safety Checks; and Choosing and Using Home Safety Equipment. RoSPA training courses are available to everybody including voluntary, community and statutory organisations. RoSPA also offers tailored training courses, developed specifically to meet the needs of your organisation/group.
Products and Resources - RoSPA offers a range of safety resources to develop the injury prevention programme for any sector (educational, industrial, commercial, or voluntary) in any environment. Contact us for a copy of our catalogue or visit our webshop.
Project Management - RoSPA identifies gaps in service provision, research and education and is innovative in finding ways to best meet those needs. Examples include using drama to tackle specific issues such as firework safety and the development of tools such as video/training/teaching resources.
Campaigns - RoSPA’s campaigns focus on key issues being tackled in Northern Ireland each year, such as reducing falls in older people, childhood poisoning or lobbying for safer design of homes and products.
Sharing Good Practice - RoSPA uses seminars, workshops and exhibitions to share evidence of "what works" in accident prevention. RoSPA’s strategic guidance forms the backbone of regional and area strategies for home accident prevention in Northern Ireland.
