Twin 85°C PVC cord is usually adequate for light fittings. If metal fittings are to be used make sure a three-core flex is used. The weight of the light fitting may affect your choice of flex size, a 0.5mm2 flex takes fittings up to 2kg, a 0.75mm2 flex takes fittings up to 3kg in weight, and a 1.0mm2 flex will support fittings up to 5kg.

Note, however, that a standard ceiling rose should not be used for light fittings weighing more than 2.5kg. For very heavy fittings (more than 5kg) a supporting chain is necessary.
