If you are using an extension lead fitted with a connector, it is vitally important to make sure the pronged half (A) is fitted to the lead connected to the equipment and not to the mains.

Extension leads

  • If you are using an extension lead fitted with a connector, it is vitally important to make sure the pronged half (A) is fitted to the lead connected to the equipment and not to the mains
  • Always fit the extension lead connections together before inserting the plug into the mains socket outlet. It is recommended that you always use a three-core extension lead
  • When using an extension lead, make sure that it is fully unwound (it could overheat if rolled up) and of sufficient current capacity. Most ready-made extension leads have the maximum wattage of appliances which can be used with it marked on them. The tool you're using should also have its wattage marked
  • Garden Electrical Safety : Extension Leads
  • Never use extension leads for permanent installations such as greenhouse lighting or heating
  • Use an extension lead with rubber connectors outdoors. Rubber connectors are designed to help keep out dampness. Never use "taped" connections
  • Never fit a plug to both ends of an extension lead, live prongs are extremely dangerous.
