Getting electricity to the garden

Only special waterproof sockets should be used outdoors and they must be protected by an RCD.

By far the simplest way of getting electric power into the garden is to take an extension lead through the door or window and plug it into a socket protected by an RCD inside the house.

Note: Always plug a portable RCD into a fixed socket outlet inside the house, not into the extension lead socket.

If you do not have easy access to a convenient socket outlet indoors, you may want to install an outdoor socket. Only special waterproof sockets should be used outdoors and they must be protected by an RCD. Employ a competent electrician for all mains wiring and electrical installations in gardens and greenhouses.
