South West Home and Leisure Safety Council
Background
The South West Home and Leisure Safety Council (SWH&LSC) is a regional alliance of health and local authority representatives.
Current members include;
- Home Safety Officers
- Local Authority Elected Members
- Trading Standards Officers
- Health Service Representatives
- Environmental Health Officers
- Fire Officers
The aim is to stimulate and co-ordinate activity and publicity to reduce home and leisure accidents in the South West. The area served by the Council is the current and former counties of Avon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Benefits of Membership
- The South West Home and Leisure Safety Committee is affiliated to RoSPA and is advised and supported by a Regional Liaison Officer from RoSPA.
- The Council has two elected representatives on RoSPA's National Home and Leisure Safety Committee, attended by Government representatives such as DTI and BSI, giving opportunity to influence European and National policy and legislation. The work of this committee is disseminated to members via a quarterly newssheet.
- The South West Home and Leisure Safety Committee is represented at the annual Home Safety Congress.
- The Council actively encourages joint working and the sharing of good practice both nationally and locally to reduce home accidents.
- Guest speakers attend each meeting to present topical home safety issues.
Membership
The current annual membership fee is £35 per organisation, which allows more than one delegate to attend. Meetings are held three times a year at venues across the region.
