Home Safety Welsh Curriculum Framework - English Version

Welsh Version

Developed with the support of the DTI, the framework provides a resource for schools looking to include home safety in their curriculum.

A lesson plan has been provided for each individual activity in the framework and, where appropriate, an accompanying worksheet has been included.

Covered are subjects such as:

  • fire safety, “Fire – get out and stay out”
  • dangers around the home
  • dealing with peer pressure
  • water safety
  • computer safety
  • the concept of risk and learning about hazards
  • understanding the scale of accidents that happen in the home
  • safe play and leisure

The curriculum provides continued learning about home safety from reception through the four key stages building on what has already been learnt although each lesson is a stand alone that can be incorporated into lesson plans.

Links are provided with the Welsh National Curriculum with the subjects covered for PSE, English, Science etc.

The curriculum has been translated and is available in Welsh complete with Welsh language links.

Each year around 3,900 people die as a result of an accident in the home and 2.7 million attend accident and emergency centres. This course provides life learning – teaching children how to be safe as they grow up and then developing life skills that will prepare them for adulthood.
