In 2000, workplace transport safety was designated as an area of high priority by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The reason for this is that it was, and still is, the second biggest killer in the workplace. 2004/2005 statistics illustrate this:
The HSE aims to reduce these statistics by 10% by 2010. To achieve this target, research and consultation has been undertaken and a new HSE workplace transport website will go into development in early 2007, with the aim of going live later in Spring 2007. There will not be any new guidance, but this site will seek to clarify existing guidance in addition to supplying links to other useful websites and sources of information. The way in which users will interact with this website is via what the HSE are calling a “route map”, which will guide the user to the information they need. This “route map” will cater for all users, no matter what their requirements are. So, whether you are a forklift operator or a lorry driver, you will be able to find the transport safety information that is relevant to you.
RoSPA also offer a workplace transport consultancy service.
