REDUCE RISK AND ADD VALUE AT RoSPA SCOTLAND ‘98
The benefits of achieving high standards of health and safety at work will be the theme of a major RoSPA conference in the autumn.
Building on the success of last year’s Scottish Congress, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident’s two-day Safety and Health Congress at the Moat House Hotel, Glasgow, (Sept 30 - Oct 1) is again being sponsored by two important companies - Scottish Power and British Energy.
In three half-day sessions, delegates will be able to up-date themselves on the latest developments in health and safety, including reducing the risks associated with occupational driving, new fire safety regulations and stress- and fatigue-related accidents.
Roger Bibbings, RoSPA Occupational Safety Adviser, said: "Preventing workplace accidents and ill-health is not just about going for the technical ‘quick fix’ when things go wrong.
"A key-note item on the agenda will be strategic approaches by major companies to raising the health and safety standards of their suppliers and contractors.
"Safety can only be assured if it is a truly integral part of all business activity. Top level management commitment has got to be turned into reality through sound policies, effective arrangements and competent people to carry them through.
"The RoSPA Congress provides a unique opportunity for all those with health and safety responsibilities to learn about latest developments, exchange ideas and discuss the way ahead."
Alongside the Congress on Thursday, October 1, RoSPA will also be staging a presentation ceremony and gala dinner for winners of RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards.
This highly successful scheme, which yielded over 800 winning companies this year, is designed to reward organisations which have shown, over a number of years, a consistent and measurable improvement in their safety record.
Some of the leading companies receiving awards at this special ceremony will include Scottish Telecom, Guinness Ireland Group, Gulf Petrochemical Industries, United Distillers & Vintners, Balfour Beatty Construction Ltd and Elf Exploration UK.
Congress delegates and award winners will also be able to visit a small exhibition of health and safety suppliers which will take place alongside both events.
