TOP HONOURS FOR ROAD SAFETY EXPERTS
Two people who have done outstanding work for road safety have been given the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ top award for individuals.
Graham Feest, secretary of the Association of Industrial Road Safety Officers (AIRSO), and Professor James Thomson of Strathclyde University were presented with RoSPA’s Distinguished Service Award for road safety at the Society’s National Road Safety Congress in Cardiff.
The presentations were made by John Howard, RoSPA Chief Executive on March 2.
Graham Feest, from Worthing, has helped AIRSO to develop and thrive as a respected road safety organisation, making an important contribution in many areas of accident prevention.
He said: “I am delighted for the association, as this award is not only for myself it is also for my colleagues. I would not be able to do my work successfully if I didn’t have the support and help of others.”
The award given to James Thomson, of Glasgow, is for his work in research and development at Strathclyde University. This has been fundamental to the development of practical child pedestrian training, which is now an important part of local authority training programmes and the Government’s Road Safety Strategy.
He said: “I am very touched to receive this award as RoSPA itself is always so receptive to new ideas in all areas of safety. To be given this award is a real honour.”
