UK’S TOP OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AWARD GOES TO SCOTLAND
FMC Technologies Ltd of Dunfermline have won the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents premier occupational health and safety accolade – the Sir George Earle Trophy.
The award was presented last night (May 12) at RoSPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Awards ceremony, sponsored by RMC Group plc, at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel.
The winning company is a global leader in energy systems for oil and gas. It also deals with food systems for preparation, processing, packaging and preservation, as well as airport ground support systems.
The company’s exemplary safety management out-performed more than 1,100 businesses and organisations in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Lord Brougham and Vaux, RoSPA vice-president, presented the trophy to managing director, Steven Hotchkiss.
The judges said FMC Technologies Ltd had developed “their own unique and outstanding health and safety culture”.
They were impressed by the company’s commitment to occupational health, road safety outside work, working with safety-related charities in the local community and making its health and safety advice available to suppliers.
Andrew Cort, FMC Technologies Ltd, Operational Manager, said: “We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Sir George Earle Trophy. Not only does this award represent a major achievement for the health and safety team, but it also reflects the good work of the organisation as a whole.
“It has been our belief that successful health and safety management throughout the organisation relies on enthusiastic direct participation by as many employees as possible. This belief has been the basis of many of our initiatives over the past few years. We consider the award to be an acknowledgement of these initiatives and efforts, along with our continual development and application of health and safety.”
