RoSPA LAUNCHES INTERACTIVE SAFETY KIT FOR GROWING FIRMS

An innovative tool to help growing businesses get to grips with health and safety has been unveiled by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

The Growing Business Safety Kit is specifically designed to meet the needs of smaller firms that may be limited in the amount of time or money they are able to invest in health and safety management.

It consists of an extensive training module that builds and measures competence in health and safety, and a risk management module that supports carrying out and recording risk assessments.

The training module enables employers to deliver health and safety training to their staff through a series of DVDs highlighting key occupational health and safety issues, from stress awareness to display screen equipment. There is also a range of online resources including interactive tests, the results of which are automatically calculated and stored.

The risk management module, also consisting of DVDs and online resources, guides users through risk assessment templates. It features a wide range of checklists covering major hazard areas and guidance documents that can be downloaded.

John Lester, RoSPA Workplace Safety General Manager, said: “The effective management of health and safety is important for any employer, but it can appear a costly burden for growing businesses.

“With their needs in mind, our innovative Growing Business Safety Kit will offer reassurance that managing health and safety can be straightforward and affordable.

“The two modules, focusing on training and risk management, enable users to self-manage many aspects of health and safety and make informed decisions about where they may need specialist help. It also provides a useful way to prove health and safety compliance.”

The Growing Business Safety Kit was launched on RoSPA’s stand (Y30) at the Safety and Health Expo at the NEC, Birmingham, on May 23. On the same day, RoSPA hosted a free Growing Business Clinic at the NEC, where smaller firms were able to receive one-to-one advice on their health and safety arrangements (see www.rospa.co.uk/growingbusiness/).

With different versions available to suit budgets and needs, and a starting price of less than £200, the Growing Business Safety Kit is available by calling 0121 248 2233 or emailing training@rospa.com
