RoSPA’S NEW ROAD SAFETY MANAGER FOR SCOTLAND
A former chief inspector with Lothian and Borders Police is RoSPA’s new Road Safety Manager for Scotland.
Willie Wills, who lives in Edinburgh, has joined the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents after 30 years in the force, which included three years as head of Road Policing Training at the Scottish Police College.
Much of his police career was involved with road safety issues, and he saw at first hand the way that road accidents claim and ruin lives.
“This has provided me with the knowledge and motivation to contribute to the development of safer roads and safer road use throughout Scotland,” he said.
“Road safety is one of the key issues facing society. As a parent I appreciate the difficulties facing children when using our roads and the challenges for those who educate them in how to use our roads safely.
“Travel is an essential part of everyday life and getting from A to B safely is the least we should aim for.
“Although there has been a general decline in the number of road accidents in Scotland, we saw a worrying 10 per cent increase in road deaths last year. Those figures show there is still a great deal of work to be done and I am looking forward to playing my part with RoSPA.”
