RoSPA NI : Home Safety : Projects

Flaming Fables
Flaming FablesRoSPA joined with Replay Productions to try to reduce accidental fires in the home using drama to raise awareness, improve knowledge and change behaviour.

The drama targeted 8-11 year olds who were able to take the safety messages home and, in targeting this age group, it was hoped that teachers and some parents would be covered by default. At least 3000 children were reached in over 110 performances at about 30 venues. Key messages were supported by a comprehensive teacher’s workbook. The tour began in February and ended in April 2004.

The key Messages from the campaign were planned as follows:

Main Causes Prevention Methods / Fire Safety Jigsaw
1. Chip Pans Testing smoke alarms
2. Electrical Night time routine
3. Smoking Materials Practise escape routes
4. Children playing with matches Know the causes of fire
5. Open flames

Secondary messages include “the impact of hoax calls”
