RoSPA NI : Occupational Safety : Statistics
Approximately 9000 work place injuries occur in Northern Ireland each year, of which some 4200 are reportable to the HSENI or a local council.
Given the statistics the need for effective management of occupational safety and health care is clear:
- About 20 fatal injuries each year
- 70,000 cases of ill health caused or aggravated by work activities
- Some 365,000 days lost due to accidents and work related ill-health
- A cost to employers of up to £370 million
- A total bill to Northern Ireland of over £500 million
