Falling for Prevention Seminar

Taking steps to avoid falling among older people

The seminar was aimed at those with a responsibility for older people either in a strategic or caring role. Delegates included Health Promotion Officers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Health Visitors, District Nurses, Care Workers, Environmental Health Officers and Voluntary Agencies.

The aim of the seminar was:

  • To highlight and progress the NI falls prevention targets
  • To highlight evidence of what works
  • To provide a forum for sharing current falls prevention approaches

Delegates said it was “an excellent conference” which was “...very informative”, encouraged “...multidisciplinary activity” and put forward “…great ideas to use and develop …re: preventing falls in the community.” The conference provided “access to valuable information and food for thought when devising home safety initiatives and seeking funding.” The breadth of the speaker list meant delegates “gained an excellent insight into the many facets of falls / their prevention and management” which is “all beneficial in developing a local strategy.”
