Managing Remote Teams Safely

RoSPA is presently delivering a collaborative project funded by E.ON to help find solutions to health and safety problems faced by organisations whose employees deliver services to the public, for example, those visiting people in their own homes.
Although domestic premises might appear to be a relatively benign environment, reports suggest that risks on occasions may be significant. Some organisations report higher than expected rates of slips and trips, hazards such as dangerous dogs, access problems on occasions and often risks associated with violence and aggression.
So far we have published an initial article by Nick Cook scoping the issues.

Nick was asked to identify and describe problems and help to build up an early picture of some of the job roles involved, the issues faced by employees and some of the solutions currently adopted.
In December we held a structured workshop engaging key organisations in carrying forward the scoping work and identifying areas for further study.

This is now being followed by an extended study period, gathering and reviewing statistical information, reviewing accident and incident reports and comparing efficacy of similar solutions to common problems in a variety of settings.
A special interactive web area is being developed to permit reporting and sharing of good practice.
This will then lead to the development of a final report with recommendations, the consolidation of a communications network and the development of practical training and briefing tools.
