Groups wishing to become members of Safety Groups UK
Background Information:
Formerly known as The National Health & Safety Groups Council, Safety Groups UK was established in 1947. The organisation is the co-ordinating body for the network of local occupational health and safety groups located throughout the UK.
Safety Groups UK continues to work towards its vision of a powerful and thriving network of groups across the UK, disseminating vital advice and information to the grass roots on all health and safety matters of potential interest and best practice.
To help achieve this vision, Safety Groups UK has secured sponsorship from Deb, Arco, Haix and Scott Health and Safety, all of whom have committed their support for three years. These organisations are extremely positive about working with safety groups to engage with SMEs.
Safety Groups UK is currently supporting the Health & Safety Executive's Moving Goods Safely campaign with a series of seminars on the topic. All of these events will be hosted by local safety groups, with five successful seminars held already. Seminar reports can be viewed on our website.
Further seminars are planned for later in the year including one to re-launch the Leicestershire Occupational Safety & Health Association (LOSHA).
The positive work carried out by local safety groups has, for fourteen years, been highlighted by The Alan Butler Awards for Excellence, sponsored by BT. The 2009 Awards were presented at the annual Safety Groups UK Awards Luncheon hosted by Safety Groups UK President Lord Brougham & Vaux at the House of Lords on January 25, 2010. A total of 11 awards were presented to recognise the Winners, Highly Commended and Commended entries in the four award categories.
Safety Groups UK continues to receive support from RoSPA, HSE, NEBOSH, IIRSM and IOSH. NEBOSH has provided financial support for the Moving Goods Safely Seminars and is actively involved in re-establishing the safety group in Leicestershire.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Safety Groups UK and the IIRSM has recently been renewed with an official signing by Safety Groups UK Chairman, Kerry Ross and IIRSM Chairman Keith Scott taking place at the Safety Groups UK Awards Luncheon.
HSE and Safety Groups UK continue to have an effective partnership agreement. As a stakeholder in the BSIF–HSE campaign ‘Clean Air? Take Care!’ Safety Groups UK will be delivering campaign resources to safety groups throughout the UK.
