Back to the Floor (BTTF) : Report & Case Studies

This RoSPA report (prepared by Dr Sara Lumley, Sep 2004) is about director involvement in workplace H&S and good practice. It aims to investigate the extent and quality of such workplace involvement by senior management in 'best practice' organizations.

This Report (PDF 216kb) contains the two stages of research.

  • Stage 1 is to ascertain whether directors/senior managers in 'best practice' organisations, across a range of industries, are actively involved in health and safety activities at an operational/shop floor level;
  • Stage 2 of the research observed a range of activities in 9 organisations to ascertain what can be done to increase the involvement of directors and senior managers in operational health and safety activities, and how organisations can make such involvement an effective part of their health and safety management strategy to demonstrate director/senior management commitment to health and safety and improve performance.

The report includes results, discussions, Guidance for best practice in BTTF activities, recommendations and conclusions.
