Manual Handling Training for Logistics in-company course

Back injuries can affect all people, in all job roles and all industry sectors. Many are irreversible and can result in significant periods of absenteeism, costing both employers and employees dearly.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended) set no specific requirements for lifting and handling, such as weight limits.

The ergonomic approach to moving and handling shows clearly that such requirements are based on too simple a view of the problem and may lead to incorrect conclusions. Instead, an ergonomic assessment based on a range of relevant factors is used to determine the risk of injury and point the way to remedial action. RoSPA's manual handling for logistics safety training course will provide a good grounding in safe moving and handling techniques, as well as an understanding of the risks associated with such activities.

In addition, delegates will leave the course able to provide awareness training to colleagues in their organisation. This will ultimately save time and money on essential occupational safety training, as delegates will be able to deliver training in-house, at a time convenient to the employer and when the training is needed.

Back Track

BACK-TRACK™

This course now uses a BACK-TRACK™ device, a motion-sensor, which allows delegates to try the device on the course, enhancing their learning experience.

The BACK-TRACK™ device is a small clip on device, which is worn on the belt of delegates to detect, monitor and record back motion thereby identifying posture related issues and risks.

Aims and objectives

To develop delegates' skills in promoting safer working practices within their organisations, by improving skills and knowledge in:

  • Principles of loss control
  • Health and safety law and how it relates to the role of the handling instructor
  • Application of MHOR’s guidance L23
  • Structure and function of the spine and the impact of poor posture
  • Efficient movement principles and their application
  • Dual lifting
  • Selection and use of mechanical aids
  • Legal perspective on manual handling training.

Who is the course intended for?

This occupational safety training course is designed for instructors, training officers, safety officers and others responsible for giving instruction in efficient movement principles.

Prior knowledge:

Delegates will need to have the ability to instruct others. A qualification in instructional techniques would be desirable.

Pre-course preparation:

Delegates are required to bring with them appropriate clothing and footwear for practical elements of the safety training course.

Course content:

  • Principles of loss control
  • Health and safety law
  • The Manual Handling Operations Regulations
  • The structure and function of the spine and impact of poor posture
