All those who work in the construction industry have their part to play looking after their own health and safety and in improving the industry's health and safety record. This occupational safety training course has been developed to provide delegates with an understanding of the role of clients and their relationship with contractors in the light of current legislation and best practice.

Who should attend?

It is suitable for contractors and those who have to manage contractors but have had no formal training. It would also be of benefit for those who wish to further their awareness following attendance on general health and safety training courses.

What are the learning outcomes?

  • An understanding of the relationship between client and contractor and the civil and criminal liabilities of the relationship
  • The requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, including the details of the key duty holders and the documentation required
  • The importance of contractor management including the principles of selection, control and review.

Course content:

  • The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 and safe systems of work
  • Selection of a competent contractor
  • Conditions of contract
  • Management of contract activities and contract review
  • Syndicate exercise to consolidate topics covered.

Course objectives
On completion of this course delegates will understand:

  • The relationship between client and contractor and the civil and criminal liabilities of the relationship
  • The requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, including the details of the key duty holders and the documentation required
  • The importance of contractor management including the principles of selection, control and review.

Who should attend?

Although previous experience of managing client/contractor relationships would be useful, there is no requirement for prior knowledge or qualification.

  • Conditions of contract
  • Management of contract activities
  • Contract review

Qualification
All delegates who successfully complete the course in full will be awarded a RoSPA certificate of training.
