Course objectives
On completion of this course delegates will understand:

• The relationship between client and contractor and the civil and criminal liabilities of the relationship
• The requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, including the details of the key duty holders and the documentation required
• The importance of contractor management including the principles of selection, control and review.

Who should attend?
This course has been developed to provide delegates with an understanding of the role of clients and their relationship with contractors in the light of current legislation and best practice.

It is suitable for contractors and those who have to manage contractors but have had no formal training. It would also be of benefit for those who wish to further their awareness following attendance at general health and safety courses.

Although previous experience of managing client/contractor relationships would be useful, there is no requirement for prior knowledge or qualification.

• Liabilities and law
• Managing contractors
• The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994 and safe systems of work
• Selection of a competent contractor
• Conditions of contract
• Management of contract activities
• Contract review
• Syndicate exercise to consolidate topics covered.

Qualification
All delegates who successfully complete the course in full will be awarded a RoSPA certificate of training.
