Manual Handling Risk Assessors
Delivered by an experienced trainer with both health and safety and teaching qualifications, this course provides delegates with all they need to know about manual handling risk assessments.
Who should attend?
Managers, supervisors, instructors and training officers and safety professionals. Ideally delegates will have attended the Manual Handling Trainers course.
What are the learning outcomes?
- Understanding the positive benefits of manual handling risk assessment
- An
appreciation of the stresses applied to the body during handling operations, and the likely injuries and impact of poor posture, to assist in the recognition of handling problems
- The use of TILEO mnemonic as an analysis tool and risk evaluation method. Review of the organisations risk assessment procedure and associated proforma’s
- Group exercise to undertake risk assessment of a typical workplace activity. Tutor facilitated discussion linked to outcomes from risk assessment activity
- Instruction in the use of HSE MAC tool
BACK-TRACK™
This course now incorporates a BACK-TRACK™ device, which is a motion-sensor, which enhances delegates learning experience.
The BACK-TRACK™ device is a small clip on device, which is worn on the belt of delegates to detect, monitor and record back motion thereby identifying posture related issues and risks.

Course objectives:
To develop delegate skill in promoting safer working practices within their organisations, by developing skills and knowledge in:
- Manual Handling Operations Regulations (L23)
- The Structure and Function of the Spine and the Impact of Poor Posture
- Risk Assessment Process including the HSE Mac Tool
- Control Measures
- Risk Assessment Practical

The course is designed for instructors, training officers, safety officers and others responsible for carrying out a manual handling risk assessment.

Qualification
The course will test the delegates’ theoretical and practical knowledge of the syllabus.
All delegates successfully completing the course in full will be awarded a RoSPA Certificate of Training.
