NEBOSH Qualification - now available online

Available as a web-based e-learning option, the NEBOSH National General Certificate (CBT) Distance Learning Package assists delegates in meeting the requirements of the NEBOSH 2006 unitised syllabus and prepares them for examination. Undertaking a web-based qualification can save organisations time and money, without compromising on high standards of health and safety training.

The occupational safety training package is divided into individual "elements" to mirror the NEBOSH syllabus. Each unit has its own index, which references the syllabus content headings.

Users are easily able to move between the different certificate elements with the aid of scrollbars and next page buttons; they may also go back over the pages of information for further reference. Video clips are included where appropriate.

How the software works

The active time spent in each of the units is timed by the software, this time is recorded (in a user’s personal data file) and is accessible by the user and training manager so that progress can be monitored against suggested study hours. (In order to record study hours accurately the software observes when it is actually being used or inactive while taking a break.)

Each element (Units 1 & 2, elements 1 to 8) is then supported by multi-choice questions and personal development questionnaires (PDQs) which are selected at random from a bank of questions in the program. Each question entry is marked by the program and a score is given. Success in this section allows users access to the hazard spotting tests (National General Certificate Unit 1 element 5) and NEBOSH mock revision.

Hazard spotting tests (National General Certificate Unit 2, elements 1 to 8) are also available with pictures being chosen (again from random) from a bank of images in the program. Users enter "control actions" and "risk assessment" points. Once they have completed their input, users are able to see the suggested answer and compare their own observations with the tutor version. These skills are required for successful completion of the practical component of the NEBOSH Certificate Assessment (National General Certificate Paper 3).

A short NEBOSH mock examination test (computer based) allows users to sit a mock exam under time constraints. Users have to attempt one long question (30 min) and three short questions (each 9 min). Once they have completed their input, users are able to see the suggested answer and compare their own observations with the tutor version. Practice at mock exams should help users to manage their time apportionment more effectively and achieve good marks in the examination. These skills are required for successful completion of the written examination component of the NEBOSH Certificate assessment (National General Certificate Papers 1 and 2).

Hazard spotting video (National General Certificate unit 1 element 5 only). Once you have completed all the elements (National General Certificate1 & 2 element 1-8), National General Certificate unit 1 element 5 has an additional tab called hazard spotting video, an additional test which can be repeated as often as you like.

All data entered, together with timings as appropriate, in the four sections (multi-choice, hazard spotting, NEBOSH mock exam and hazard spotting video) is recorded by the program.

The times recorded (user’s personal data file) are also accessible by the training manager under password protection through the personal user/s history log. A mirror image of the personal record may be exported direct to the RoSPA support tutor to ensure the best possible delegate progress management is provided during the support period.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate (CBT) Distance Learning Package is a thorough integrated software solution offering appropriate reference material reinforced by effective revision tests and mock examination. Supported by a manual, telephone/email set-up and optional e-mail support (by experienced tutors for 12 months from purchase date, subject to conditions).

Data protection: The RoSPA support tutor (if applicable) will be able to access the user’s personal data file online.
