Using chemicals or other hazardous substances at work can put people’s health at risk, causing diseases including asthma, dermatitis or cancer. Most businesses use substances of some kind, or products that are mixtures of substances. Some industrial processes create substances. These could cause harm to employees, contractors and other people.

The COSHH regulations require employers to control substances that can harm workers' health. COSHH covers chemicals, products containing chemicals, fumes, dusts, vapours, mists and gases, and biological agents (germs), as well as asphyxiating gases. If the packaging shows any hazard symbols then it is classed as a hazardous substance.

RoSPA's COSHH health and safety training course enables delegates to learn the basics of identifying, measuring and controlling exposure to harmful substances, thereby safeguarding themselves and their colleagues.
