English as a Second Language: Key Stage 2 Resources

ESOL Key Stage 2 Road Safety Resource is a road safety education resource for use with Key Stage 2 children whose first language is not English. The road safety messages are provided in English, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi and Polish .

There are two parts to this resource, the teacher's guide, which provide links to the curriculum, and a child's work book which features clear and simple road safety messages focussing on the main risk areas for children of this age.

Road Safety in Citizenship 2 comprises of teachers’ notes and student sheets on four topics: Speed, Motorcycling, Crashes, and Starting Work/Work Experience.

School Assembly PlansThe use of assemblies with a road safety theme can help to reinforce learning, help the children reflect and discuss incidents/accidents, meet people who can help them and explore the moral implications of their actions in various situations.

S'Cool to be SafeTheatre in Education
Theatre-in-Education (TiE) is often used to convey road safety education in schools.

Dramatic ImpactS'Cool to be Safe was a national TiE project, sponsored by Toyota, focusing on areas of everyday life where children could be in danger, with an emphasis on road safety. Annual tours were delivered from 1999- 2002. The final tour was the subject of a formal evaluation.
