Winter Driving Tips – Driving in Fog |
Fog is potentially the most dangerous of all weather conditions and freezing fog - when poor visibility is compounded by the road surface being slippery - is a driver's worst nightmare. AVOID DRIVING IN FOG UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
If you must drive:
- REDUCE YOUR SPEED AND KEEP IT DOWN - CAN YOU STOP IN TIME?
- Drive defensively so that you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear.
- Use the demister and windscreen wipers.
- Don’t 'hang on' to the rear lights of the car in front as you will be too close to be able to brake safely.
- Beware of speeding up immediately as visibility improves slightly. In patchy fog you could find yourself 'driving blind' again only moments later.

‘Accidents Are Not Random’ - New Driving DVD |
This new 10-minute film is for anyone who drives to work or for work. Using more than 250 images of how drivers really behave, it highlights the dangers created by bad habits and complacency on the roads. Seeing motorists happily chatting on mobiles, running amber lights and, astonishingly, not wearing seatbelts will make all drivers think about the gap between what they know to be safe and how they behave day to day.
