Local Health and Safety Groups Rewarded |
The valuable role played by volunteers who promote health and safety to businesses and organisations in their area has recently been celebrated at a national awards ceremony, the Alan Butler Memorial Awards for Excellence. The groups provide a local forum for communicating health and safety information nationwide and offer help to employers, particularly small businesses. They also seek to influence the country’s health and safety system.
RoSPA supports Safety Groups UK, provides its secretariat and hosts its website. Local contacts can be found on the website.

It is now compulsory for companies to conduct a Fire Risk Assessment.
This is a major change in legislation. As an employer, or as someone who has control of a workplace, you must put in place ‘suitable and sufficient’ fire risk assessments. RoSPA’s new two-day Fire Risk Assessment course has been designed with the advice of a senior fire professional specifically to help you comply with these new laws.

Winter Driving Tips – Winter Sun |
Winter sunlight can present drivers with an unexpected hazard. The angle of the sun in the sky will frequently be too low for your visor to be able to help. If you are blinded by glare, reduce your speed.
Reduce the effect of glare by keeping both the inside and outside of your windscreen clean and grease free.
Dark glasses (or prescription glasses if you are short-sighted) are suitable for combating glare, but should be removed whenever the sun goes in. They should not be worn in duller weather or at night as they seriously reduce the ability to see.
