Raising the profile of Home Safety

Raising the profile of Home SafetyIn light of the recent Government decision to invest £18million in home safety measures designed to protect children in vulnerable families, we are proud to present details of a collaborative conference organised by the London Home & Water Safety Council in association with RoSPA.

When: Thursday 6 March 2008
Where: The London Fire Brigade Training Centre and Museum

Accidents in the home send around 2.7 million people to hospital across the UK each year, and in England and Wales alone, nearly 4,000 people die each year from injuries they sustained at home.

However, home accidents, and their life-changing consequences, frequently go unreported publicly because they happen ‘behind closed doors’, and raising awareness of Home Safety can therefore be a challenge.

The event will be of interest to all those involved in Home Safety including managers, policy makers, development officers and practitioners within primary care trusts, local authorities and the voluntary sector.

Keynote Speakers Include:

  • Cllr Brian Coleman - Deputy Chair - The London Assembly, President - London Home & Water Safety Council
  • Dawn Dcaccia - Head of Home Safety – RoSPA
  • Denise Kendrick - Reader in Primary Care Research, University of Nottingham

There will also be a selection of exhibition stands to visit during the networking breaks.

Become a RoSPA Approved Auditor

5 day Audit Training

Quality Safety AuditQSA (Quality Safety Audit) is a unique system developed by RoSPA to provide a complete health and safety management audit system, based on the principles of HSG65, BS8800 and including all parts of the guidance document OHSAS 18001.

The QSA system can be implemented by one of RoSPA’s highly experienced Consultants (visit our website for more information), but this 5 day QSA Training Course would enable one of your employees to become a RoSPA Approved Auditor.

The course also trains delegates on the use of ORBIT, RoSPA’s new audit software, which is designed to facilitate quick and efficient auditing and reporting upon return to the workplace.

This course is suitable for professionals in a position to perform an audit of their organisation’s safety management systems. Some knowledge and/or experience of health and safety is required.

Britain’s number one “tells it like it is”

Barrister Gerrard ForlinDirectors’ Health and Safety Responsibilities Conference
De Vere Daresbury Park, 28 January 2008

Barrister Gerard Forlin, ranked number one in the heath and safety legal 500 directory (September 2007) will be just one of the top class speakers at the RoSPA Directors’ Health and Safety Responsibilities Conference.

Senior representatives from the Health and Safety Executive, Institute of Directors and RoSPA will join Gerard in outlining recent developments and key dimensions of this challenging subject.

The programme includes practical guidance and ‘real life’ examples given by experienced professionals from ISG Interior Exterior PLC, Reliance Security Services Limited and Marks and Spencers.

Over 500 directors and senior personnel have already benefited from the Directors’ Health and Safety Conferences in Birmingham and London and this is what they had to say:

‘Very informative and well worth attending’

‘Excellent content’

‘A good event – concise and hard-hitting’

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from the best! No organisation, however outstanding, can afford not to review their corporate governance of health and safety. Directors need to be able to show that they have taken all reasonable steps to manage risks, and have effective health and safety management systems in place, including arrangements for involving their workforce.

RoSPA wins approval as Competence Qualification Centre

RoSPA Driver and Fleet Solutions - now an approved centreRoSPA Driver and Fleet Solutions Department is now an approved centre to train passenger transport and road haulage managers needing a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Under current EU law, bus, coach and large goods vehicle operators seeking an “O” licence have to show that they are professionally competent or employ someone as a transport manager who meets that requirement.

Training and examinations can now be undertaken at RoSPA’s Birmingham headquarters as a result of approval by the Oxford, Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts Examination Board (OCR).

Simon Protano, RoSPA Head of Driver and Fleet Solutions, said: “CPCs have an important role to play in ensuring businesses are well managed.

“RoSPA’s training covers everything operators need to know to gain a CPC, including the law, safety requirements and vehicle maintenance. This is a first step towards RoSPA offering a wide range of new products and courses in preparation for the introduction of driver CPCs later next year.”

The eight-day CPC National Road Haulage and CPC National Passenger Transport courses will be held in Birmingham with the next start date on 25th February 2008.

For more information and details on the course and schedules, please call: 0121 248 2084 or email: fleetsolutions@rospa.com
