CSEC’s first year - Project highlights
It is a year since the Child Safety Education Coalition was launched publicly and members were first invited to join. Since then, 76 organisations have joined the coalition.
More children and young people will have practical opportunities to learn about danger and how to cope with it thanks to a range of projects launched by the Child Safety Education Coalition. Among the highlights of CSEC’s projects so far are:
- Around 70 play workers being the first to take part in new training designed and delivered by CSEC and the Birmingham PlayCare Network to give them the confidence to lead activities sometimes deemed “too risky”
- Outdoor activity instructors from Youth Afloat in Redditch piloting CSEC training which focuses on how children can learn safety skills through adventure pursuits like canoeing, mountain biking and sailing
- Students from Coventry University’s Department of Computing and the Digital Environment developing computer games which will help children learn about fire safety
Other projects to be launched in the coming months include:
- A national wildlife-focused initiative to encourage children and young people to explore and enjoy the outdoors whilst also breaking down the perceived “health and safety barriers”
- A road safety project involving the parents of children at a Birmingham primary school
- A project to get children thinking about safety during farm visits
Feedback on the projects from adult play workers and children alike has been extremely positive.
In addition to the practical projects, another highlight was the first international seminar about young people’s involvement in injury prevention. Details can be found on the CSEC website. |

This valuable course is an excellent way to ensure driver skills are maintained and furthermore sends a clear message to your drivers that their welfare is of paramount importance.
The course will help drivers to:

New from RoSPA! - Asbestos Awareness: the e-toolkit
RoSPA is delighted to launch the new Asbestos Awareness e-Toolkit. As a simple and affordable way of keeping up to date with asbestos training, can you afford to miss out?
Asbestos and asbestos awareness are the biggest issues facing many contractors working for large organisations, and many contractors do not have the time to leave sites to attend dedicated training courses.
RoSPA’s new toolkit, aimed at managers and pitched at an awareness level, provides a logged training session on asbestos so you can keep a record of training. Plus, it will not take up an entire day! Each kit costs only £6.10 (£5.00 for Members) and grants access to one manager and one trainee.*
Those who successfully complete the e-training will receive a RoSPA Certificate of Training, ensuring that they have physical evidence to prove their skills.
For more information, call our knowledgeable sales team on 0121 248 2233.
To support learning by using the e-toolkit, take a look at RoSPA’s asbestos resources and training aids – get the most out of your budgets and training by ensuring employees always have useful information to hand.
Don’t forget, RoSPA also runs dedicated open and in-company training courses on asbestos awareness.
*Minimum order value £25.00.
