Child Safety in the Home Training Course

Dangers of children with matches.RoSPA is a City & Guilds Approved Training Centre.

Children under the age of five years are more at risk from an accident in the home than anywhere else. Many of these accidents are preventable. Developed specifically to address this issue, our course focuses on the most common types of home accidents affecting this age group and their prevention.

This one day course is accredited by City & Guilds and there is an optional assessment available for those delegates seeking accreditation from a nationally recognised awarding body. For candidates in England and Wales, a one hour exam can be taken in Autumn or Spring each year. For those in N. Ireland, separate arrangements apply.

Who should attend

All those involved with families and their children. From community groups and health professionals to statutory organisations, all have a role to play in the prevention of childhood accidents in the home.

What they will learn:

Falls, burns, scalds, poisoning and fire are the biggest cause of serious and fatal injuries in the home. This course will show effective measures, both behavioural and environmental, to reduce the risk of injury from these accidents.

Course content includes:

  • Identifying which children are most at risk and why
  • Child development in relation to accidents
  • Accident prevention in the home
  • Risk assessment in the home
