Preventing Burns and Scalds Training Course

Every day 21 people are admitted to hospital following a serious burn or scald. The very young and the very old are most at risk from burns and scalds in the home. The treatment of burns and scalds is often very long and painful, sometimes involving repeated skin grafts in the case of children. Burn and scald injuries can result in disfiguring scars. Many of these injuries are preventable.
This one day course is accredited by City & Guilds and there is an optional assessment available for those delegates seeking accreditation from a nationally recognised awarding body.
For those in England and Wales, a one hour exam can be taken in Autumn or Spring each year.
Who should attend:
The course is designed for all those working to reduce injuries in the home and particularly those working with children and older people. Professional and voluntary practitioners have a vital role to play in accident prevention.
What will they learn:
Falls, burns, scalds, poisoning and fire are the biggest cause of serious and fatal injuries in the home. This course will show effective measures, both behavioural and environmental, to reduce the risk of injury from these accidents.
Course content includes:
- Identifying which children are most at risk and why
- Child development in relation to accidents
- Accident prevention in the home
- Risk assessment in the home
