Why did you want to get involved in the RoSPA Awards?

The immense sense of pride to achieve Gold and recognition within our Sector has made the 2018 Awards round doubly rewarding, something we can hold up personally and organisationally and say what we do does count and does make a difference.

What can be done over the year to keep drafting the Awards submission simple?

We got everyone involved in the process of aligning data collection over the year with the RoSPA question set. We took a systematic approach to collecting and collating data across the spectrum of health, safety and environment issues impacting on the business. Identifying the statistics that RoSPA is looking for as part of the submission at the outset sounds basic, but has allowed us to build a data collection system that supports the Awards process.

What hints or tips would you give to prospective RoSPA Awards Applicants?

We ‘share’ the questions according to discipline, which allows us to benefit from the experience and understanding of each team member. Simple information clearly communicated is at the hub of our submission, which is drawn together to create a holistic overview of how we deliver health and safety performance improvement.

How has joining the Awards Excellence Forum benefited you?

To have the opportunity to share our experience through the RoSPA Awards Excellence Forum was really valuable, walking away with a feeling of being supported through having established a shared understanding of ‘what works’.
