Deliver the qualification over a minimum of 8 hours with                                  approximately 25% theory and 75% practical skills, both of which are            guided learning hours. To meet oil and gas industry standards,                        learning hours may be extended to 16 hours.

What does the RoSPA Level 2 Award in Defensive Driving (International) qualification cover?

This defensive driving qualification consists of five mandatory units:

Unit 1 - Recognising the risks associated with different driving environments

Different environments have different driving risks, so this unit will explore this in detail, paying attention to high speed multi-lane roads, urban environments and rural settings.   

Unit 2 – Identifying the factors that can lead to poor driving decisions and how to overcome them

This unit will investigate the internal vehicle factors and external factors that can affect a driver’s decision-making abilities and explore how to improve driver concentration. 

Unit 3 – Understanding the importance of pre-journey vehicle checks

This module goes into detail about the potential consequences of not checking a vehicle before travel, some of which can be particularly catastrophic in some industries, like oil and gas industry.

Unit  4 - How to conduct a pre-journey vehicle check

This practical-based unit shows learners how to effectively demonstrate a pre-journey vehicle check to ensure maximum safety.   

Unit 5 – Demonstrating safe driving at work

Learners will understand the importance of positive driver behaviour, and explore awareness of self theories, the effect of personal health and wellbeing on driving ability and how to deal with other people’s mistakes on the road. It will also hone the learner’s ability to manage distractions inside and outside the vehicle, while making informed decisions to reduce collision risk.
