As RoSPA's chief executive, Errol Taylor has been instrumental in pursuing our vision of life, free from serious accidental injury. Yet he decided to go that extra mile, or to be specific, that extra 140 miles on a cross-country journey to raise funds for our vital work.
In June 2013, Errol cycled from Whitehaven to Gateshead. Despite having undergone knee surgery several months earlier, he headed north, accompanied by friends Andy and Ian. There they joined their guides and nine other cyclists all raring to tackle the coast to coast challenge.
The four-day trip took them through beauty spots and past lakes, pikes, mining villages, a viaduct and the Tyne Bridge. Fortified by healthy lunches and sweet treats from the "naughty box", the cyclists braved punctures, steep hills, sore buttocks and the odd grumpy local as they made their way across Cumbria, (one of the few places where red squirrels like our very own Tufty still live) and Northumberland.
Errol's knee and trusty Dawes Sarratoga mountain bike stayed the course and he raised more than £3,165.
