Leaving a Legacy

Why leave a legacy to RoSPA?

Legacy

It's simple; you could save a life.

Accidents:

  • kill more than 16,000 people every year in the UK
  • are the biggest killer of children and young people
  • are the major cause of death up to the age of 39
  • are the leading cause of preventable, early death for most of our lives.

But they don't have to happen.

A legacy is also tax efficient. Your donation will either be taken off the value of your estate before Inheritance Tax is calculated OR reduce your Inheritance Tax rate, if more than 10 per cent of your estate is left to charity.

  • A Residuary Bequest: once you've decided what to leave to family and friends, you can donate a share, or the remainder of what's left.
  • A Pecuniary Bequest: if you want to leave a particular sum to RoSPA, you put this in your will.
  • A Specific Bequest: this is something that you think will raise money when sold. Examples include jewellery, a painting, property or shares.

Size really doesn't matter. Whether you leave us £10 or £10,000, it will help us save lives!

£15 could buy a life-saving carbon monoxide alarm for a family in need

£5,000 could provide 1,500 Keeping Kids Safe packs to disadvantaged families.

As we enter our second century, we're desperate to give parents and carers the support they need to keep under-5s safe.

Children of parents who have never worked, or are long-term unemployed, are 13 times more likely to die from an accidental injury than those of professionals.

We want to give free Keeping Kids Safe packs, containing advice, tips and practical resources, to disadvantaged families across the UK.

So we've launched the Brighter Beginnings Appeal. And we need your help! It's simple: the more money we raise, the more packs we can provide.

Will

  1. Write down everything you own and how much it is worth. Include possessions, property and any savings
  2. Make a note of the people you want to include in your will
  3. Match up the two lists
  4. Now make an appointment with your solicitor.

If you want to leave a legacy gift to RoSPA, all you have to do is make an amendment to your will, known as a codicil. Talk to your solicitor about this.

Please include our name RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) and Registered Charity number 207823 when making a bequest.
