ISO 45001 Self-Assessment Tool
What is ISO 45001?
ISO 45001 is the latest ISO standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) that provides organisations with a framework to proactively improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions.
The new ISO standard can be used regardless of organisation type or sector, by small low-risk operations as well as high risk and large complex organisations.
What are the benefits of using ISO 45001?
The benefits of ISO 45001 are endless when implemented correctly, but can be broken down to the following:
- Developing and implementing OH&S policies and objectives
- Establishing systematic processes
- Determining hazards and eliminating or controlling them
- Establishing operational controls
- Evaluating performance
- Ensuring workers take an active role
- Reducing insurance costs
- Improving employee morale
- Added endorsement that demonstrates to external parties that you have achieved full compliance with a specific standard
In order to support organisations improve the safety, health and welfare of employees and their families in a simple and easy to use way RoSPA has developed an online self-evaluation system.
The self-assessment tool is designed to be low cost, quick and easy to use and technically accurate on topics that we know can be challenging for smaller and growing organisations.
In the future we will publish additional self-assessment question sets on the self-evaluation system. These will cover all the areas we know relate to peoples safety; covering Workplace, Home, Leisure, Road and Play activities.
How should I use it?
You can use the tool for your whole organisation, or conduct assessments on different parts of your organisation wherever they are based. The questions are not technical, so you don’t need to be a safety specialist to answer them. Additional guidance on each question is provided.
The results will identify the main gaps that exist and help you decide on the action that needs to be taken to improve your management system and to plan how to implement an ISO45001 compliant system.
The tool will help you critically appraise the structure and outputs of your existing Safety Management system. The self-assessment tool is not a full audit against the standard, as this requires more consideration, but completing the tool will help you identify and plan where more detailed audits and reviews might be needed and give you an overall score on the report.
The ISO 45001 self-assessment is an online tool which can be completed at a time that suits you and will be available for three months from when you sign up.
