Driver Development

Driver Development - more than just defensive driving

RoSPA's Driver Development course is the perfect way to ensure all drivers, regardless of their driving history or previous training experience, undergo continuous professional development. Defensive driving is only one element of the RoSPA Driver Development Course, as each course is tailored to suit the development needs of each and every driver. Drivers will be taught a systematic approach to hazards and defensive driving techniques to minimise risk in the driving environment. The principles will then be applied to the three main driving environments – town, country and motorway.

This best selling course gives drivers of cars, vans and HGVs the skills and techniques they need to anticipate danger and reduce risk. Whether you run a fleet of cars, vans or HGVs, RoSPA's Driver Development course will keep your team safer and your costs lower.

The overall aim is to develop a positive attitude to driving, which includes understanding how personal factors can affect performance. Drivers will leave with enhanced skills and will reduce their crash risk by developing a risk assessment approach to driving hazards.

For many people, driving for work is one of the most dangerous activities they undertake and employers have a legal duty to assess and manage the associated risks – just as they would for any other work-related activity.

Driver development including defensive driving is an essential part of ongoing skills training, and it's an investment that should pay for itself many times over. Trained drivers are safer, more systematic and positive drivers. They will provide you with fewer and lower accident repair costs, less down-time due to maintenance, savings on fuel and tyres and an enhanced company image.

Furthermore, only training such as ours that has been approved and delivered by a JAUPT registered provider counts towards CPC certification. These defensive driving classes have been accredited as contributing 7 hours towards your CPC quota. (You can read more about What is driver CPC and do you comply? here, and use the Driving Standards Agency's register to check online the number of hours you've completed.)
