What is the wellbeing champions course?

This 1 day course is for existing or aspiring workplace health champions and volunteers who wish to improve the health and wellbeing of people in their workplace by motivating and encouraging colleagues to make positive lifestyle choices and support the company wellbeing programme.

Why take the wellbeing champions course?

The HSE states that in 2018/2019, 246,000 workers suffered from a new case of work-related stress, depression or anxiety.

This course will provide your workers with an understanding of the principles of promoting health and wellbeing and enable them to support your company wellbeing programme, as well as develop a health promoting culture. Your champions will learn how effective communication can support health messages, how to promote improvements in the health and wellbeing of others and understand the impact of behaviour change of improving an individual’s health and wellbeing.

Who can study the wellbeing champions course?

The course is suitable for existing or aspiring workplace health champions and volunteers who wish to improve the health and wellbeing of people in their workplace by motivating and encouraging them to make positive lifestyle choices.

What does the wellbeing champions course cover?

Section one: Behaviour change

Understand the impact of change on improving organisational and individuals’ health and wellbeing, by being able to meet the following assessment criteria:

Give an example of behaviour change that can improve an individual’s health and wellbeing
Give an example of an environmental and social intervention that can improve an individual’s health and wellbeing
How individuals can be encouraged to change their behaviour
Identify positive and negative influences on behaviour change

Section two: Effective communication

Understand how effective communication can support health messages, by being able to meet the following assessment criteria:

Producing a workplace wellbeing calendar and communication plan
Identifying the workplace communication channels and skills that are effective in communicating health messages
Identifying workplace barriers to communication that may affect the understanding of health messages and strategies for overcoming these
State the role of effective communication in the promotion of health messages

Section three: Campaign design

Understand how campaign design can support health promotion interventions, by being able to meet the following assessment criteria:

Design a wellbeing campaign implementation plan
Produce a marketing plan
State the Health and Safety requirements
Design a campaign evaluation process

Their role as a champion working within a wellbeing programme or strategy
How to promote wellbeing, organise wellbeing campaigns, onsite events and awareness days
How to administer onsite wellbeing programmes
How to complete effective evaluation of wellbeing campaigns, onsite events and awareness days.
