FAQs - London Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner

ExCeL London, Tuesday, May 17, 2022

Q: How do I get to ExCeL London?

A: The full venue address is: ExCeL London, One Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, London, E16 1XL. See map.
Underground and DLR – The Jubilee Line and the DLR are the quickest routes to ExCeL, which has three onsite DLR stations: Custom House, Prince Regent and Royal Victoria. The Prince Regent is closest to the Safety and Health Expo. For the Underground, take the Jubilee Line to Canning Town and change onto the DLR for a two-stop journey to ExCeL. For step-free access, alight at Prince Regent.

Cars and parking – When driving, follow signs for Royal Docks, City Airport and ExCeL. When you leave the M1 there is easy access from the M25, M11, A406 and A13. Use the postcode E16 1DR in your sat nav. A limited number of car parking spaces will be free for the duration of the event. Pre-bookings are available.

Air – London has six international airports. Whenever possible, we recommend using London City Airport, which is located 5 minutes from ExCeL by taxi, or 10 minutes by the DLR. London Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports are all connected to central London by rail and underground.
National Rail - London's main rail terminuses are Charing Cross, Euston, Kings Cross/St Pancras International, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, Marylebone, Moorgate, Paddington, Victoria and Waterloo.

River and Cable Car - When travelling to ExCeL London by riverboat, alight at North Greenwich Pier for the O2, where you can hop onto the Emirates Air Line Cable Car for a quick journey with stunning views over the river to ExCeL.

Bike - ExCeL offers free-to-use cycle racks. These are located at the West entrance taxi drop off point, just underneath the DLR walkway, and next to the East Entrance, underneath the stairway. If you are using satellite navigation, we recommend using the postcode E16 1DR.

Q: What is required to gain entry?

A: All daytime guests will need to register for the Safety and Health Expo to gain access to the awards ceremony. Please click here to register.

We will be following the venue’s guidelines which are updated regularly. Please note that you may be asked to show proof of double vaccination, COVID-19 antibodies or negative lateral flow test (within the last 48 hours) to gain entry. UK-based visitors can use their NHS COVID Pass, and international visitors can use the equivalent from their country of origin.

Q: How will ExCeL manage ventilation?

A: Ventilation has been increased in line with the latest Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers guidance and recommendations.

  • Fresh air has been improved by increasing the size and speed of fans, as well as the installation of new pipes.
  • There is a regular maintenance programme in place, which ensures double the amount of statutory checks are carried out. Filters are replaced regularly.
  • CO2 monitors have been installed in client-facing areas, which monitor air conditions and provide an indication of whether capacity should be reduced. These are not alarmed but will support writing an effective risk assessment.

Q: Is there any accommodation nearby?

A: There is a range of accommodation located close by to ExCeL. Please see some options below.

Q: How many people from our organisation can attend?

A: As many people as you wish may attend the daytime presentation and you do not need to advise RoSPA of their names but you will need to register all guests for the Safety and Health Expo to gain entry. One nominated person is permitted to receive the award on stage (whose name should be advised via the booking platform), which colleagues may watch. However, group photographs are an ideal way of ensuring that all staff who have contributed to your organisations success can share in later publicity. These may be arranged (at extra cost) prior to or at the events.

Q: What time should I come and what should I bring with me to the presentation?

A: You will be sent a time in an email before the ceremony, please print out and bring your presentation notification email. This will clearly state your presentation day, group and registration/presentation times. Please aim to arrive a few minutes before your registration time. You will be able to watch the proceedings while you listen for the announcement of registration for your group. The print-out will also show your reference number in case you require assistance.

Q: What is the dress code?

A: The dress code for the daytime presentation is smart business attire, national dress or uniform. For the Gala Dinner, we request smart evening wear, lounge suits, uniform or traditional attire, evening or cocktail dress. These events are not ‘black tie’, but guests are very welcome to dress formally if they wish – and some do so.

Q: What happens at the awards gala dinners?

A: Sector awards and trophies are presented before a high-quality, formal meal, which is followed by entertainment from an after-dinner speaker. A live band then provides music for the rest of the evening. We also have a few fun surprises!

Q: Are there any COVID guidelines in place?

A: RoSPA will run their events according to official government and local authority guidance in the first instance, as well as any venue or location-specific regulations. Additionally, RoSPA will reflect the Safety and Health Expo’s guidelines as this runs in conjunction with the RoSPA London Awards Ceremony. RoSPA will provide hand sanitiser on all tables at the Gala dinner, as well as hand sanitising stations located around the venue.
