Our most recent data report
showed that unintentional injury fatality rates and admission rates are increasing in Scotland.
There were 18,600 hospital admissions due to accidents in the home last year.
With more people of all ages spending more time in the home environment, and now with the easing of restrictions, there is an increasing challenge to raise awareness of the types of accidents that can happen and how they can be avoided.
RoSPA is leading the way in campaigning for change and providing a range of resources in order to educate, inform and help people prevent home accidents.
One of the ways in which we have been sharing information during the COVID-19 pandemic is through online webinars. We held our first webinar on child safety in the home on May 20, which focused on overall tips and advice to help keep children under five safe in the home.
Our second webinar took place on June 30 and focused on electrical safety in the home. We were joined by Wayne Mackay from Electrical Safety First, who provided us 10 tips to keep safe and electrically aware. You can view the recorded webinar online
As COVID-19 restrictions ease, RoSPA will continue to give people the opportunity to view this free advice in an interactive way.
Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters, both on the day and after the event. Our next webinar will focus on fire safety and will be held on Thursday, July 16 at 10am.
It will feature a key presentation from Stephen Harkins, station commander at Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Sign up here
This will be followed on Thursday, July 30 (at 10am) by a comprehensive webinar for practitioners on burns and scalds. Mark Stevenson, chairman of the Scottish Burned Children’s Club, and Sharon Ramsay, burns nurse specialist from Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children, will be speaking. Additional speakers are to be confirmed. Sign up for this webinar here
