An introduction to fire safety management systems

An introduction to fire safety management systems

Fire safety management systems play a crucial role in protecting lives and property, as this article from Croner-i explores.

The overarching objective of UK fire safety legislation is to ensure that people at risk from fire remain safe through the application of appropriate general fire precautions, identified as necessary through the fire risk assessment process.

However, failures in fire risk management are often cited as a contributory factor in serious fires that may put people at risk.

With government guidance noting that good management of fire safety “is essential to ensure that any fire safety matters that arise are always effectively addressed”, the need for a formal fire safety management system is now being recognised.

This is particularly the case now, due to the amendment of fire safety legislation that requires the responsible person to record fire safety arrangements.
