Level 2 International Award in Defensive Driving

RoSPA Qualifications have developed a Level 2 Defensive Driving award for the international market. This qualification is self regulated by RoSPA Qualifications, it does not appear on the Ofqual register of qualifications.

The award is suitable for anyone who is required to regularly drive as part of their work. It would also be suitable to meet driver training standards required in the oil and gas industry.

It aims to develop the learner's knowledge of the causes of work related driving incidents and provide them with the skills and knowledge to reduce the likelihood of being involved in an incident on the road.

This Level 2 Award provides learners with knowledge of factors which can influence a person's ability to drive safely. It provides strategies to overcome these risk factors and to enable the learner to develop a positive attitude to driving. Specific factors relevant to the oil and gas industry are included such as desert driving.

Total award time and Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 7 hours

All course delivery teams within the UK should hold the RoSPA Level 4 Award in Advanced Behavioural Driver Training (Diploma) or equivalent DVSA approved fleet course in addition to an ADI qualification if the vehicle to be used for training is a category B vehicle.

Outside of the UK, RoSPA Qualifications expects that the course delivery team hold the RoSPA Level 3 Award in Behavioural Driver Training (or equivalent).

Learners will be assessed through:

  • Practical demonstration and observation
  • Question and answers

Please note that a video recording device which can also capture audio for recorded discussion will be required to record learners when completing their assessments.

In the last three years there were 15,753 crashes on British roads. RoSPA estimates that 25% of these crashes involve someone who was driving as part of his/her job. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have more than double the UK's rate of road deaths (59.9 deaths per million population compared with the GB's 28.3).

More people are killed or injured in at-work road accidents than in all other workplace accidents put together, so defensive driving skills are essential for at work drivers to reduce their risk of being involved in an accident.
