RoSPA Level 3 Award for Manual Handling Trainers

Qualification Number 601/8648/3

Moving and handling is a key part of the working day for many people. Poor moving and handling practices cause back pain and work related musculoskeletal disorders which can lead to an inability to work.

This RoSPA Qualification gives formal recognition of a learner's skills to move and handle objects safely, and also to be able to train others to do so.

This qualification supports the role of the manual handling trainer by enhancing their expertise in order to provide suitable and sufficient training that meets both legislative requirements and current best practice, ensuring the well-being of the workforce.

This qualification consists of three mandatory units

  • Unit 1 - principles and processes that underpin safe handling in the workplace
  • Unit 2 - application of basic biomechanical principles and safe practices to manual handling tasks within the workplace
  • Unit 3 - preparing, delivering and evaluating a training session

All three units are mandatory and must be passed to gain a qualification.

To find out more about this qualification please download the specification.

Work related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) continue to place a significant burden on employers and workforces across Great Britain, accounting for 44% of all work related ill-health. 9,466,000 working days were lost (HSE) in 2014/15. The risk and impact of WRMSD can be reduced with appropriate manual handling training and education.
