What does the Emergency First Aid at Work Course cover?
Role and responsibilities of a first aider: Understanding the duties and responsibilities associated with being a first aider in the workplace
Need for consent to provide first aid: Understanding the importance of obtaining consent before administering first aid and respecting the autonomy of the individual
Primary survey of a casualty: Systematic assessment of the casualty's condition to identify and prioritise immediate life-threatening issues
Administering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation): Recognising the signs that indicate the need for CPR and learning the correct techniques to perform it effectively
Identifying choking: Recognising when a casualty is choking and understanding the appropriate first aid measures to alleviate the obstruction
Recognising shock: Identifying the signs and symptoms of shock and understanding how to provide immediate first aid to a casualty in shock.
Minimising the risk of infection: Techniques and practices to reduce the risk of infection for both the first aider and the casualty
Conducting a scene survey: Evaluating the safety of the surrounding environment to ensure that it is safe for both the first aider and the casualty
Summoning appropriate assistance: Knowing when and how to call for additional help or emergency services when required
Placing a casualty in the recovery position: Safely positioning an unconscious casualty to maintain an open airway and prevent choking
Identifying life-threatening external bleeding: Distinguishing between different types of external bleeding and identifying situations where it poses a life-threatening risk
Administering first aid in a range of situations: Applying first aid techniques to a variety of emergency situations, including but not limited to heart attacks, strokes, seizures and allergic reactions.
